Best of 2013 - Beauty products!

1. Alba Botanica Natural Acne Dote Maximun Strength Oil Control Lotion all-day matte finish
I can't say enough good things about this lotion. I was looking for a good oil control lotion after I realized the Boots Expert Shine Control Lotion is really not working. This stuff does what it says. It control oil on my t-zone all day. If I don't use for one day, I can tell at the end of day how much of my makeup has melt off due to oiliness. The only down side is it has a very herbal smell since it's "natural". I really don't mind considering what it does. ALBA ACNE dote Oil Control Lotion, 2-Ounces

2. Eye Cream - Estee Lauder Resilience Lift firming/sculpting Eye Creme
After using up my expensive deluxe sample of the Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair cream (Which I LOVE!), I was on the market for a more inexpensive alternative. I got a deluxe sample of this cream and I have been sticking with it ever since May! I love it! I love buying deluxe sample of high end beauty products since you never know if it works with you skin. This was a hit. It moisturizes, does not burn my eyes and just feels good under my eyes. I have to use this eye cream before applying concealer or my under-eyes look too dry.

3. NYFUXI Skin Care Angel
This is an asian product aim to instantly brighten, absorb oil and hydrate the face.
After application, it gives me a glow and not the oily kind. The kind that looks like your skin has foundation on but doesn't. I love using this at night since it has a calming lavender scent.
I got mine on Ebay for $30.

4. Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum

The Perfect acne spot treatment! I fell in love with this product from a Birchbox this year. It healed my red mountain size zit perfectly. Love love love!
Intensive Blemish Serum - Fight Acne, Pimples, and Blemishes with YS3 Spot Serum

5. Tony Moly Egg Pore Silky Smooth Balm

Another asian product. This product is so fun! it comes in an egg container. It is suppose to be used as a primer but it also contains extracts to help minimize the pores. The main ingredient is egg white. I have been using it as makeup primer for a month now and I love how it feels on my skin. Feels very similar to Smashbox's photo ready primer in original.

6. Favorite BB Cream- L'Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream in Medium

Surprise! It's not an asian BB cream. Even though I love The Holika Holika Pore Clearing Petit BB Cream with Tea Tree Oil and Sebum Control Powder, It was very drying for me and did not work well for me in this cold weather. I went back to this L'Oreal BB cream since it is light and still maintains good coverage. It has a matte finish and almost feel like a primer. I just love how when you blend this out on your face it starts to match your skin color perfectly.

L'Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream, Light, 1.0 Ounces

7. theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer

This product is a 10 in one. I use it as eyeshadow base, highlight the cheeks, inner-corners of eyes and bridge of the nose. The color is perfect and just provides enough shimmer to make you look glowy and not oily. Did I mention how long this will last me? I still haven't made a dent even though I have been using it since summer. :)  theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer 0.3 oz.

8. Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Bisque

My dark eye circles have been getting worse and worse ever since I got sick recently. To help with it's dryness, I use the above eye cream for moisturizing. Then, I use this product to cover up the purple and blue tones and followup with my next 2013 favorite for brightness.
I love how this color is perfect for covering the reddish darkness, purples and blues under the eyes.

Bobbi Brown Corrector-Light Bisque .05 oz

8a. Maybelline Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in Ivory

The perfect drugstore dupe for the YSL éclat concealer. It highlights and covers the bottom of your dark eye circles. Instantly brightens the face! This gives me extra protection after using number 8. I am on my third one already :).
Maybelline New York Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer, Nude, 0.05 Fluid Ounce

9. Milani Baked Powder Blush in Luminoso

The perfect coral shimmer blush for my skin tone. I think it's the best I ever used. I will re-purchase forever.

10. EM Michelle Phan Chiaroscuro contour and highlight stick

I really only like this for the contour side. It is the perfect shade to contour the nose and cheeks. It is totally soft and blend-able. The highlight side is usually okay. I prefer theBalm.

Bought from their official site:

11. Maybelline New York Volume' Express The Rocket Washable Mascara

This one little thing separate, thickens and lengthens. It also keeps the curl up all day along. I have no complaints.
Maybelline New York Volume' Express The Rocket Washable Mascara, Blackest Black, 0.3 Fluid Ounce

12. It's so big volumizing mascara by Elizabeth Mott

This mascara keeps those lashes separate but adds a load of thickness. I usually pile this on after using number 11. I will keep buying this as it does not weight my lashes down at all!
It's So BIG Mascara

13. Anastasia Dark Brown Brow Powder Duo

The best color and pigment for a brow powder I have ever found. The drugstore products are a no match. I can say for the price it is worth it.
Anastasia Brow Powder Duo-Ebony

14. Meet Matt(e) Palette by theBalm

Pigmented colors without the shimmer. Great to use as eyeliner colors too!

15. Lancome L'Absolu Rouge Creme de Rouge lipstick in merlot

The BEST dark red ever. Ever.

That about sums it up for my beauty favorites of 2013. The beauty miner will continue to try out many other products in 2014! :)

What are your favorite hair products really doing to your hair?

Have you been using a product for awhile but your hair is getting drier and drier?

---Infomercial style Intro ;)

But seriously look in the back under ingredients…

Does it contain any of the below?

Common Silicones in Hair Products:
PEG-modified dimethicone
Various copolymers, or usually ends in "cone", "col" etc.

Dimethicone/Cyclomethicone is the chemical forms of silicone. Silicone in hair products add thickness to the hair, makes hair smooth, silky and free of frizziness. Many curly hair gals use products that contain a form of silicone because it helps to smooth their hair out.

While it temporarily gives your hair that shine and silky touch, using these in the long run can be damaging to your hair. Silicone builds up on hair since it is not water-soluable. Over-time it will dry your hair out. You will also need  good quality clarifying shampoo to wash these build-up off.

The solutions:

1)   Water Soluble Silicones

Stearoxy Dimethicone
Behenoxy Dimethicone
Example product: Paul Mitchell The detangled

Use products with the above that contains water-soluble silicones, these will be much easier on your hair. It has been argued that these are not as affective as the other silicone ingredients. It depends on the person. Give them a try!

2)   Clarifying shampoos

If you must use your favorite products (It has been hard for me to part with Biosilk since it contains silicone), then use a clarifying shampoo at least once a week to wash off product build-up. Then follow-up with a moisturizing oil (scull down to see what my favorites are).

Neutrogena Shampoo, Anti-Residue Formula, 6 Ounce

3)   Home-made remedies

Apple cider vinegar with water (1 tsp with 1 cup of water)
Baking soda (1 tsp with 1 cup of water)

Follow-up with my favorite natural oils:

Josie Maran Argan Oil 0.5 oz - A little drop of this does wonders. Apply to ends only.
Argan Oil 100% Certified Organic Moroccan
For example: Mogador Certified Organic 100% Pure Argan Oil 2 fl. oz (60 mL)
